The Art of Capoeira

A historic Brazillian fighting dance finds new meanings and reaches a new audience in today’s NYC. Capoeira combines self-defense, acrobatics, dance, music, and language into a display of art. Originally created by slaves in Brazil as a means of breaking the bonds of slavery, both physically and mentally. This traditional martial arts dance has now attracted a new audience and generation of people who have new reasons to dance. This piece involves multiple in-depth interviews with the fighters and what inspires them to practice Capoeira.
